"Former native councillor dead at 52"

OHSWEKEN - Ray Hill who served on the Six Nations band council for several years, died after suffering an aneurysm on the weekend.

Mr. Hill, who was 52 years old, died at Hamilton General Hospital on Sunday.

The Mohawk man was a former iron worker who served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war and was an active member of the Six Nations Veterans Association.

He was also assistant treasurer of the Johnsfield Baptist Church at Six Nations.

Coun. John Peters, who served on the council with Mr. Hill for four years, said he will be missed.

"Raymond put his whole being into it (his council duties). He really took it seriously," said Mr. Peters.

Mr. Hill was defeated in the last election, but never lost his interest in local politics.

He is survived by his wife, Olive, and his children Darryl, Rae Anne, Sandra, Laurie and Karin, and four grandchildren.

Mr. Hill was to be buried this afternoon at the Johnsfield Baptist Church.
