Sisters of youths killed in crash hope to hold memorial game by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff 9 | Thursday, January 14, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Family members of two Oakville men killed in a fiery vehicle crash on the QEW just before Christmas are asking for the public's help in raising funds for an annual hockey game in memory of their loved ones. Long-time friends Timothy Boissiere and Michael Calderone, both 23, died the evening of Dec. 22, 2015. They were killed when the SUV they were travelling in became involved in a four-vehicle collision on the QEW, near Trafalgar Road in Oakville. Following their funerals, Calderone's sister Larissa and Boissiere's sisters Rachel and Kimberly came together in an effort to establish an appropriate memorial. "We were just looking for a way to honour both boys in a way we thought they would have loved and been happy we were doing," said Larissa. "Given that they had passed away on their way to play hockey we thought what better way to honour them than with a hockey game every year." The group has set up a gofundme account with a goal of raising $5,000. The account was set up on Jan. 10, but as of the Oakville Beaver's print deadline Wednesday, it had already reached more than half its goal with 50 people contributing $3,780. "Any amount that you are able to donate will mean the world," wrote Rachel in a Facebook post. The crash, which took the lives of Boissiere and Calderone, remains under investigation by police. No charges have been laid. A way to honour their memory In a Facebook post, Rachel said the goal is to hold an annual memorial hockey game before Christmas in an effort to forever keep the memory of Calderone and Boissiere alive. Larissa said funds raised would go towards renting a rink, the purchase of special jerseys and other expenses involved in hosting the event for as many years as possible.
