With flu season well underway, Halton Region is reminding residents, who have yet to get their shot, to take advantage of its last flu clinic being held Jan. 14 from 4-8 p.m. in the Halton Regional Centre's Auditorium, 1151 Bronte Rd., Oakville. The clinic will offer several influenza vaccines, including a nasal spray for children ages two through 17 years. "With the completion of these clinics, Halton Region will have hosted 12 flu immunization clinics and piloted two appointment-based, family clinics to help meet the changing needs of our community," stated Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr in a press release. "Our flu immunization program is another example of how we partner with the community to achieve the best possible health and well-being for everyone," stated the regional chairman. The flu vaccine also continues to be available at many pharmacies, walk-in clinics and doctors' offices across Halton. Getting the flu immunization is the best way to protect oneself and prevent spreading the virus, according to Halton's Health Department. Other preventative measures include: cough and sneeze into your sleeve; wash hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub, and stay home when sick.
