Karen Hardy Photo Gravelle Announces Provincial Investment for Thunder Bay-North Superior Hospitals Thunder Bay - Superior North MPP Michael Gravelle was pleased to announce on February 11, 2008 that the McGuinty government is investing $586,849 in infrastructure upgrades to Thunder Bay -Superior North hospitals as part of Health Infrastructure Week. “Safe and efficient hospitals ultimately help to reduce wait times for patients and increase access to family health care,†said Gravelle. “These investments will ensure that the citizens of Northwestern Ontario are getting the care they deserve.†This announcement is part of the McGuinty government’s initiative to pro- vide funding to all Ontario hospitals for infrastructure upgrades. Thunder Bay - Superior North investments include: Geraldton District Hospital: $148,205 Wilson Memorial General Hospital: $146,046 Nipigon District Memorial Hospital: $146,550 McCausland Hospital: $146,048 These initiatives are part of the McGuinty government’s plan for innovation in public health care, building a system that delivers on three priorities - keeping Ontarians healthy, reducing wait times and providing better access to doctors and nurses. Nipigon/Schreiber 0PP Weekend Report During the weekend of February 8th to the 10th, 2008, Nipigon/Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) received 20 calls for service and issued 46 Provincial Offence Notices. Police investigated two motor vehicle collisions. On February 10th, 2008, Officers were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway #11/ Lake Helen when they initiated a vehicle stop involving a tractor - trailer unit. A consent search of the unit produced a number of pills which were subsequently identified as Ecstasy tablets. The 45-year-old male from Quebec was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession for the Purpose contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He will attend court in June, 2008. On February 10th, 2008, Nipigon O.P.P. Officers were advised of a tractor-trailer unit parked at the Nipigon Petro Canada which was missing its rear trailer wheels. Upon arrival of police, it was observed that a 2008 Ken-worth and a trailer bearing British Columbia plates was on scene and the trailer was missing both wheels from the front axle on the driver’s side. The 24-year- old male driver from Brampton had traveled from Cochrane to Nipigon that date and the tires were not observed to be missing until the unit reached Nipigon. The registered owner of the unit was subsequently charged under the Highway Traffic Act with having the wheel detached. The court date is April, 2008.
