The event was one of several headed by Tree Canada meant to educate and increase public knowledge and appreciation of trees. It was also meant to help renew the urban forest after the devastating effects of the emerald ash borer (EAB) on the town's tree canopy. According to the Town of Oakville, "while natural regeneration will account for most of the regrowth in the woodlands, select planting sites are planned to help the forest regrow more rapidly with desirable native species." Volunteers went home with a decorated pot and seedling, a wood-cut pendant and a greater appreciation for the benefits that trees provide. Sore Feet, Sports Injury, Painful Ingrown Toenails?
