Pauline Johnson Brantford Public Library 1s tory ?J:our'paid tribute to the famous Mohawk poetess , E. Pauline Johnson , l ast Saturday morning. Twelve Indian children from thE Six Nations School Section No. 8, Tuscarora, pre- sented a program to a packed house at t he library, under the direction of Principal Oliver M. Smith. Due to lack of space , unfortunately, many children were turned away, The program included a film , s t ories and poems by E. Pauline Johnson. Pauline's poems were rec.i ted by Shelly Staats , Judy Miller , Mona Hill and Donna Martin. The story was an Indian legend entitled 11 The Story of Creation. 11 The movie 'Mohawk Pottery .• was also shown. Following the program , the Library Board tendered a luncheon to the visitors from the Reserve. E. Pauline Johnson was born at "Chiefswood" her father's beautiful estate on the Grand River, Six Nations' Reserve on March 10th. 1861. Here Pauline grew up and lived for the first twenty-two years of her life. She died in Vancouver on March 7 ,. 1913 and_ was buried on her birthday March 10 at Stanley Park, B.C. iiead-on Collision Takes Three Lives A two-car head-on collision on Highway 6, six miles south of Caledonia Saturdccy afternoon t ook the lives of three persons including a Six Nations Reserve resident. Killed were Robert Bemberry, 24 , of R 2 Ohsweken , driver of one of the vehicles; Alexander Young,57, of Hamilton, driver of the other car , and his wife, Mary , 58. Three persons in the Bomber ry vehicle, all residents of R 2 Ohsweken , were injured. Stuart Williams, 24, and Thomas Porter, 23, were admitted to Hamilton General Hospital . Williams is in fair condition wi t h a possible fractured skull and face cuts. Porter has facial fractures and lacerations . His condition is satisfactory today. Warren Green , 39, was admi t ted t o West Haldimand General Hospital in Hagersville with facial lacerations. His condition is good. Police said the Young vehi cle was southbound and the Bemberry vehicle was north- bound. The accident occurred in the southbound lane of the two-lane highway.
