Amnesty hosts Coffee House Saturday

Amnesty International Halton Hills chapter The Halton Hills chapter of Amnesty International will be running its 15th annual Coffee House on Saturday, Nov. 4 at St. John's United Church at 7:30 p.m . To celebrate the anniversary, the local Amnesty group is hosting a special evening of folk music featuring Bob and the Barbs, Ken Walsh, and Jim-Bob and Sue. The headline act of the evening is Bob and the Barbs. Bob Kerr, a lifelong local bass player and singer, who years ago rocked Toronto with his Midnighters rock and roll band, now plays across Southwestern Ontario with Marion's Country Band. Bob's Barbs, wired for sound as well as a good cause, include Bob's wife, Pat on the keyboard and background vocals, his son, Jeff on drums, daughter-in-law, Ana Maria on doowap, and his daughter, Christine on lead vocals. From Westport to Centralia communities have come to know the Kerr family well for their folk, country and gospel sounds. At this special Coffee House show, Gwyn Evans on cornet, and Kevin Anderson on guitar and vocals, will offer great additional sounds to Bob and the Barbs performance. Ken Walsh, a musician well known around Milton and Oakville, will also be performing during the evening. Ken frequently performs at restaurants and coffee houses and is noted for his easy listening style of singing and playing. Jim-Bob and Sue are a popular local band that will add an Irish, bluegrass and fiddle sound to the show. The group is made up of Jim Broughton, Bob Gee and Suzanne Hnatiw who have performed in many gigs at the Shepherd's Crook and previous Amnesty Coffee Houses over the last six years in their group, Classic Folk. The performers are gladly donating their time in support of the work of Amnesty International. There will be numerous singalong and clap-along opportunities over the course of the evening to encourage audience participation. Homemade desserts and light beverages will be sold during the show. The admission at the door is $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. All proceeds will go to support the work of Amnesty International.
