The BMX bike racing event that was reported in the Independent & Free Press last week will actually be held this coming Saturday in Milton to honour the memory of a popular local-area rider and coach who died this summer at Halton Place. All proceeds from the Celebration of Life will be donated to the Tim DaSilva Fund and a race will be held in the Milton native's memory, along with many other activities beginning at 1 p.m. at the Track 2000 facility. The 21-year-old DaSilva was killed when a large machine he was operating while constructing a BMX track that he had designed at nearby Halton Place overturned on him. He was well known in BMX circles around the province and served as a coach and mentor to young riders. Saturday's $20 rider fee includes a Tim's Celebration t-shirt and a commemorative medal. A beef and salad dinner following the race costs $5. Local track access permits from other tracks are welcome. For more info call 416-426-7247.
