Chatten caught off-guard with senior honour
CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer Longtime Halton Hills councillor Ron Chatten was surprised at Monday's council meeting with the announcement he was the town's selection as 2006 Senior of the Year. On the initiative of several councillors, council nominated Chatten for the honour. The award, which is handed out in each municipality, is sponsored by the Ontario government, which designates June as Seniors Month. Mayor Rick Bonnette, on behalf of council, presented the award, signed by Jim Bradley, Minister of Tourism and James Bartleman, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, during Monday's council meeting. Not only is Chatten a 15-year member of council, he is a longtime volunteer involved in activities through the years such as being an Optimist and a driver for both the Canadian Cancer Society and Canadian Red Cross, working with the St. Alban's in the Glen youth group, and annually judging St. Francis of Assisi speech competitions "Ron takes great pride in his community and is always willing to lend others a helping hand by assisting and participating in various community events and in
