A couple of Halton Hills residents turned in multiple gold-medal performances at the recent Ontario Track & Field Championships in Windsor. Seventeen-year-old Kaitlyn Andrews of Acton, who will attend Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas on a scholarship beginning later this summer, won both of the events she entered at the provincials. The Acton High School student had a toss of 13.19 metres to capture the junior women's shot put, and threw a 20-pound weight 12.56 metres for top spot in that event by just nine centimetres. Limehouse's Alexandra Jarvis ran to comfortable, personal-best victories in her races and showed no illeffects from a recent leg injury. Representing a Mississauga club, the 12-year-old Jarvis posted a time of two minutes, 29.19 seconds in winning the bantam girls' 800 metres and clocked in at 5:06.2 in the 1,500. The Stewarttown Middle School student missed two more trips to the podium after finishing fourth in both the triple jump and long jumpevents she doesn't regularly train for. Meanwhile, Andrews was in fine form again this past weekend in New York City, heaving the shot put 13.95 metres at the 2006 National Scholastic Indoor Championships, finishing runner-up in the highly competitive girls' division, second only to the number-two-ranked U.S. thrower.
