Lickers and seconded by George Bomberry that this council authorize Indian .Affairs Branch Brantford i Ontario to renew the permit of Massey Ferguson Industries Ltd. for rental ()f the slag dump at ~i'assey-Ferguson foundry · in Brantford Ontario for a per-ioL: < ,-,:n.: r --::.:.:i:· ·:·.c·c · Dec. 22 1967 to Dec. 21, 1968, together with an option to renew for a further period of one year providing the rental is increased by twenty-five per cent (25%). Carried. (3) Transfer a parcel of land on Concession 4 from Norman E. Lickers to the Six Nations band of Indians for the sum of $1 on the following conditions that the land therein transferred shall be set aside for the use. of the Governing Council of the Salvation ArmJ Canada East , for as long as it is required for church purposes.When the land is no lon~er used for church purposes, the land will revert to the use of the Six Nations Band. In the event that the land ceases to be used by the Governing Council of the Salve,tion Army Canada East, for its church purposes , they shall be allowed six months to remove a.ny or_all of its buildings from the safrl_ land. ··· · Carried. (5) A by-law w;as passed prohibiting the sale of fireworks 'Nith:tn the limits of the Six Nations Reserve except ond day , immediately prior to Victoria Day. Persons hcxlcting .a fireworks display must have a permit fr.om the Six Nations Council application to be made in writ1.ng t o the s ecretary. at least 10 days in advance of such display. No permit will -be issued to any person under the a ge of twenty-one years. The above motion was defeated by a vote of- 6-5. (7) Moved by CJ.ifforq. Lickers .and seconded by Wm. ~- Longboat that this council reque,st Ontario Bydrot .to for.ward a written cash offer to Council for compensation to property owners . to the Band Council and any other terms for relocation in relation to the steel tov1er transmission lines through the &ix Nations .Reserve. Carried. (8) Moved by Ranson Jamieson and seconded by Frank Montour, tl1at .. -thi.s council approve the rec ommendation of the Public Lands Committee that the Northwest corner of the parking lot at the Mohawk Chapel, Brantford-) Ontario be the site to place a plague to mark the founding of . the first Mohawk Village and that the wording on the plague be as follows · n Mohawk Village" In 1784 the Six Nations .. Indians who had allied themselves with the Crown during the American Revolution were ?,ranted a tract: c;f land ov·er half a million acres alon~ the Grand River. Following the example of their leader Joseph Brant (1742-1807) some 450 Mohawks settled here on the Detroit Path a trail linking Lake Ontario and the Detroit River.
