Storage barn blaze near St. Volodymyr's sixth fire in a month continued from p.1 Lions Valley Park, and the St. Volodymyr Cemetery, just south of the centre. The flames were under control within 30 minutes, but the parking lot at the cultural centre was filled with cars whose owners, attending Choirfest in the centre, were unable to leave the area as fire vehicles, pumpers and an aerial truck, blocked the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to structure and contents was estimated to be $300,000. The cause of the fire is not known, but the Fire Marshal has been called and is investigating. Shortly before 11 p.m., Halton Regional Police issued a statement indicating, "A fire investigation is underway at a local property and roadway lane restrictions are in place for the foreseeable future." Police reported they responded, along with Oakville Fire, to the blaze at 1280 Dundas St. W., the cultural centre property. "A storage structure, separate from the main building, was engulfed," said police. Lane restrictions along Dundas, from Neyagawa Boulevard to Proudfoot Trail, were in place to let emergency services access to the scene. "These restrictions are expected to last for a number of hours while the investigation continues. It is in the preliminary stages and no cause has been determined," said police, indicating more information would likely be available Wednesday morning. Anyone with information is asked to contact the 2 District Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-825-4747, ext. 2216, through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.haltoncrimestoppers.com or by texting `Tip201' with a message to 274637 (crimes). This fire marks the sixth to take place in north Oakville in the past month. On Sept. 26, firefighters responded to a brush fire near an abandoned heritage home at 1470 Bronte Rd., just south of Upper Middle Road. The next day, Sept. 27, they returned to a fire at the heritage home, which destroyed the farmhouse. That blaze was deemed suspicious. On Oct. 10, a large shed was destroyed in the same vicinity, on the property of Bronte Creek Provincial Park and near the heritage home. On Oct. 19, there was a fire in Theatre Sheridan on the Trafalgar campus of Sheridan College. Lighting that touched nearby material was determined to be the cause of this fire. On Oct. 18, the playground at the Glen Abbey Recreation Centre was destroyed in a blaze that was deemed to be purposely set as accelerant was found at the scene. -- with files from David Lea 7 | Thursday, October 29, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Hair Studio 1 $95.00 · Color, cut, blowdry & eyebrow waxing y for appl (new clients only- add'l charge will hair shoulder length or longer). ·Men's cut & colour $55.00 Oakville firefighters use an aerial truck to battle a blaze in a storage barn near the St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre Tuesday evening. | photo by Graham Paine Oakville Beaver (Follow on Twitter @halton_photog or facebook.com/ HaltonPhotog) Try our Fall Promo!
