Built in 1890 by escaped negro slaves coming to Oakville via the Underground Railroad, Turner Chapel operated as an AME Church until it was leased to the Independent Anglican Church (Canada Synod) 10 years ago for St. Columba's Church. The annual April campaign always kicks off with Daffodil Days, the sale of yellow blooms. The society is now selling King Edward daffodil bulbs for fall planting - to help keep those daffodils bloom ing every spring. The bulbs are sold in bulk - 5 lb. box, a minimum of 32 bulbs, at $5.95; 10 lbs., or 65 bulbs, $10.85; 40 lbs., or 260 bulbs, $44. Smaller amounts of 10 bulbs will be sold for 20 cents each $ 2.
