With her was her daughter Mrs. Macklim of Thunder Bay and her daughter in law, Mrs. Simmons of Woodstock. Many happy returns. Mrs. Simmons loves her home and is very contented right there. She can amble up town for her banking business and mail with Sharie Raby The Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion had their night out last week when they enjoyed a banquet at the Hoo Lei Gardens in Cobourg. To Mrs. Ruby Griffis many happy returns of the day. We hope you will soon be back home after your lengthy stay in Trenton Memorial Hospital. The Senior Citizens club are experimenting with euchres one Friday evening and bingos the next. These are free but a quarter collection pays for the prizes. Mr. T.J. Fitzmaurice spent a few days ii Ottawa this week. Charlie Harndens birthday is Wednesday, so many happy returns of his seventy years. He was recalling that there were three cars on Colborne streets when he was married. He was also in buying his best man a little gift in the Jewellery shop when in came two young men who said they were in a big hurry. Charlie had laid five dollars on the counter to pay Mr. Mayhew for his purchase. The men asked to see the diamond rings. When Mr. Mayhew bent Bickells lunch counter has changed hands. It is to be known as the Korner Snack bar and the new owner is Blake Hetherington. We wish him well in this new venture. He plans quicker service and more use of the grill and space available. Early this month a couple of men from Colborne drove all the way to Snake River Canyon to see Evel Kinevel do his famous jump. It cost twenty five dollars to be on the spot. They did not see Evel get into the sky bike. Billy Sawyers and Tony Scriver were there to see the result. down to get the tray out of the case the men grabbed the five dollars and fled. Perhaps sneak thiefs are common today but it was unheard of fifty years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Lacasse have gone back to their home in Quebec after spending the summer in Colborne. The new minister was out on visitations. At one house the little girl stared and stared at him. He had to ask her why. Her answer, "My mother said you were not all there. I'm trying to see what is missing." Mrs. Larkman of Bewdley visited in town last week. Her husband gets about in a wheel chair in their home in Bewdley. Frost damaged squash and dahlias last Sunday night. Colborne Womens Institue hosted the workshop .for the area last week. There were twenty three present and a very good session was held. Representatives came from Wooler, Codrington, Community, Castleton, Ridge Road and Colborne. Mrs. Clarence Diamond instructed the work shop. She is a member of the Federated Womens Institute of Ontario. The September meeting of the Womens Institute was held in the town hall with fifteen members present. Mrs. E. Branscombe was in charge of the program, "Citizenship and World Affairs." This was very well rendered bringing up Canadian history and the men who fought for their country; some very happy memories and also some very sad ones. Please don't forget our afternoon tea and bazaar Oct. 5, in the Masonic rooms 2 to 5 p.m. Plans were made to help a family who had a bereavement in the home. Empty beer bottles are returnable items but where can they be returned?
