COLBORNE Citizen Colborne, Ontario 15' Vol. 2, No. 39 Wednesday, Sept. 25, 1974 Colborne Cubs and Scouts hold registration Registration for the cubs and scouts took place last Wednesday in the Youth Centre. Meetings commence the first week of October. Sixteen registered but more than this will be coming in. The cubs and scouts are very anxious to recruit new leaders, assistants and helpers. They are having a paper drive on the 26th of October and an apple day on the 19th. Cubs must be eight years old by the end of the year and scouts eleven by the end of the year. Following registration a general meeting took place. Don Prentice is group committee chairman. Mrs. Winnie Bilcox is secretary treasurer. Scout leader Rick Edison was one of the first at the hall. In a few minutes the fire alarm sounded so Rick took off to help. Imagine his surprise to find the engine heading for his home where some building that had been ripped down had taken alight. Frank Kober is a cub leader and Vic Baitley is cub leader assistant. It was hoped to get a Venturers or Beavers club started for the older boys. Local families are helped by residents Skating club meets A planning meeting for the Colborne Figure Skating Club's 1974-75 season was held Tuesday Sept. 17th at the Town Hall. President Louise Barrett informed the club that there will be an increase in the ice rental and the profesi.ional's wages this year. These extra expenses made it necessary to increase the registration fee to help cover the costs of maintaining the club. After a general discussion it was decided the fee for this season would be $20 per child and $10 for each additional child. Power skating will be $10. The senior skaters for an additional $5 a year can, if they wish to, have 45 minutes "patch" time to practice their figures. Registration forms will be distributed in the schools. These forms must be mailed to Mrs. James Brown, RR 4, Colborne by Oct. 4th or brought to the Town Hall from 7 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 4th. It is important that registraiion forms be in by this date to allow Mrs. Walton time to organize the classes. Skating is scheduled to commence Nov. 6th at which time the first instalment of fees must be paid or a $5 fine will be charged by the club. Parents are urged to attend the monthly meetings held every 3rd Tuesday to help the executive in their efforts to insure a successful skating season. An effort is being made to have a representative of the Canadian Figure Skating Association come to speak to parents and senior skaters at the Oct. 22 meeting. Saturday night there was a benfit dance at the arena for the Fuch family. The young people dug in and got the place in ship shape condition. The music was good, the crowd was good and maybe the Fuch family are feeling good. Mr. Fuch said he has been here five years and has always worked out of Colborne. When things go along smoothly it doesn't hit anyone that a town like Colborne would stand up and back a family that disaster had struck. Now there is no place like Colborne as far as this family is concerned and they would like to thank the clubs, the local people from the bottom of their hearts for everything that has been done for them. Now Mr. Fuch, you just hurry up and get better. The Parker family who was burnt out recently also have been recipients of furniture etc. and have plans to move to Cobourg. We are so glad to here this. E.N.S.S. takes two firsts East Northumberland Secondary School took two first place finishes at the annual "Quinte Mile Run" held at Quinte Secondary School.
