Wednesday, October 14, 2015 Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre, 2302 Bridge Road, Oakville 7:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m. $30/person Pam Damoff, Liberal Oakville North--Burlington continued from p.6 her promotion of cycling in Ontario. Her work within the community over the years, earned her a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal and Rotary's Paul Harris Fellow Award. Issues Damoff hopes to continue championing at the federal level, if elected, are protecting the environment and preserving greenspace. "There's nothing in the federal budget on climate change and we need to start having those conversations," said Damoff, a recipient of the Top 40 Fabulous Women Over 40 Excellence Award for Community Leadership from the group Absolutely Fabulous Women. If there's one thing I believe in strongly, and have since I've been on council, is that the environment and economy are tied together," she said. "What's good for the environment is good for the economy," she added. Damoff also plans to push for better public transit and more funding for infrastructure. Using the example of the Oakville and Burlington GO stations, she said they have decent service, but connections to the stations -- walking, cycling and public transit -- could be better. "The Liberals will put money into the hands of the municipality for transit so we can make improvements," she said, noting the party would develop partnerships with the provinces and municipalities to fund the projects. The Liberal Party's plan to build a stronger Canada centres around being inclusive and renewing and building partnerships, Damoff added. "That's how I've always worked, whether in business, community or council. When you work in partnerships, you come up with better solutions," she said. Damoff, who has a 25-year-old son, said the Liberal plan is a vision that goes beyond the next election and takes a real look at the future and what kind of country Canadians want to have for our children and grandchildren. She said it's reflective of her values and beliefs and she believes it's more reflective of the values of Canadians. For more information about Damoff, visit PamDamoff.ca.
