www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, September 17, 2015 | 52 Oakville Centre plans to reflect and rock out with upcoming shows Artscene M U S I C F I L "Connected to your Community" L E D K E R R F E S T September will end off in reflection and rocking out at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. The local theatre is hosting two shows next month: Classic Album's Live performance of The Beatles Help! (Sept. 19) and multi-award-winning Canadian drama Jake's Gift (Sept. 26). The Beatles' Help! Anyone looking to hear the hits from Help!, "note for note, cut for cut," may want to check out Classic Album's Live show featuring The Beatles' famous pop record. "Help! is one of the best albums in the entire collection of the Beatles' discography and it does so with great songs, a fun structure, and even a movie to promote it," stated a media release. "The gang John, Paul, Ringo, and George were running on all cylinders when they made this one and it is one of the last albums before their big foray into folk and eventually psycho rock." The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets cost $65, $58 (for big ticket members) or $54 (big ticket plus members). Jake's Gift Jake's Gift is a play about a Second World War veteran's reluctance to return to Normandy, France for the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings. While at the shores of Juno beach, Jake encounters Isabelle, a precocious 10-year-old from the local village. "Isabelle's inquisitive nature and charm challenge the old soldier to confront some long-ignored ghosts -- most notably, the war-time death of his eldest brother, Chester, a once promising young musician," stated the release. "At its heart, Jake's Gift is about the legacy of remembrance and makes personal the story behind one soldier's grave." Among its accolades, the play won Best New Play at the Victoria Fringe Festival in 2007 and Best Drama at the festival in 2007 and 2008, as well as Best of Festival at the Edmonton Fringe Festival in 2008. It also took the Royal Canadian Legion Media Award in 2009. Admission to the 8 p.m. show is pay-what-you-can. All performances take place in the Willson Auditorium at the 130 Navy St. performing arts centre. Tickets are available online at OakvilleCentre.ca or by calling 905-8152021 or toll-free 1-888-489-7784.
