Talk to Town about traffic Police crack down on `High Flyers' The Town of Oakville is asking residents to weigh in on the possibility of lowering the current 50 km/h speed limit across the town. The Town is reviewing the current methods of traffic calming and speed limits on all town roads (not Regional Roads, such as Dundas Street, Trafalgar Road, Upper Middle Road, and Dorval Drive) and has developed a short survey to collect resident opinions. The survey asks residents to choose the measures they think are working well, or not, on their street or in their neighbourhood. The survey also asks residents' opinions on lowering the current speed limit. Halton police are cracking down on high-speed drivers who take advantage of Oakville's open roads during off-peak periods. Dubbed Project `High Flyer,' the police enforcement campaign began on Friday, Sept. 11 and will run for two weeks. Police will be most active from noon to 3 p.m. (ahead of rush hour) and 8-11 p.m. (after rush hour) as there is an increase in pedestrian traffic at those times. Officers will also be on the lookout 11 p.m.-5 a.m. when traffic is at a minimum, but the high-speed drivers are at their fastest. Police are reminding residents it is not safe to speed.
