U.S. ambassador keynote speaker at Oakville Chamber gala U.S. Ambassador Bruce Heyman will be the keynote speaker for the Oakville Chamber of Commerce's 61st annual Chair's Dinner Thursday, Oct. 1 at the Oakville Conference Centre. The event, which will recognize the contribution and leadership of current Chamber Chair, Kerry Colborne, begins with networking at 5 p.m. and a gala dinner at 6 p.m. The evening will also see the introduction of the Chamber's new chair and board of directors. "We were delighted when Mr. Heyman accepted our invitation to speak about business relations between (the) U.S. and Canada at the Chair's Dinner," said Colborne. "Strong relations between the U.S. and Canada are of vital significance to many of our members and Oakville businesses in general. There's no doubt Mr. Heyman's address will be enlightening to all of us." Heyman presented his letter of credence to the Governor General of Canada on April 8, 2014, after being sworn in on March 26 as U.S. President Barack Obama's personal representative to Canada. He is a 33-year veteran of Goldman Sachs, where he served as a regional managing director of the Midwest private wealth management group, which covers 13 states and half of Canada, from 1999 until December 2013. Heyman emphasized importance of the relationship between Canada and the U.S. during his swearing-in ceremony in Washington, D.C. "I commit to all of you, to all Americans and Canadians, that I will give 100 per cent of myself to enhancing our bilateral relationship... because when America is strong, it is good for Canada, and when Canada is strong, it is good for America, but we are best when we are strong and standing together," he said. The formal evening includes a networking reception, dinner and silent auction. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased through the website www.oakvillechamber. com or by emailing jad@ oakvillechamber.com. Ticket prices are $125 for Chamber members; $175 for non-members.
