Summer weather won't be leaving us just yet: meteorologist by Julia Le Oakville Beaver Staff 19 | Thursday, September 3, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Don't put away your sun hat and bathing suit just yet -- there's still warmer weather to enjoy. The Weather Network meteorologist Dayna Vettese told the Oakville Beaver Tuesday that there's still quite a bit of summer left before cooler temperatures start to settle in. "We've got warm temperatures in the forecast over the next week or two with temperatures in the mid-to-high 20s C, a humidex value into the 30s C and the risk of thunderstorm here and there," said Vettese, who is part of The Weather Network team of meteorologists and weather specialists headquartered at 2655 Bristol Circle with parent company Pelmorex Media Inc. "So, it really will feel like summer for the next couple of weeks, especially for back to school and anyone begrudgingly going back to work with all the beautiful weather." Summer temperatures started off a little shaky, but were agreeable for the most part. "The last weekend of June was probably one of the worst summer weekends in a long time," she noted. "It was cold, it was rainy -- it felt like October. It wasn't a very good month in June, but July and August turned it around. We were pretty much seasonal, pleasant temperatures, we did have a few hot spells where we were hot and humid, but that was punctuated by really nice pleasant weather -- good sleeping weather through the overnight." October will continue to be relatively pleasant before residents get their first taste of wintery weather, according to Vettese. "Sometime toward the end of October and into November we will see a bit of a pattern change where we'll get into an almost early taste of winter," she said, adding there may be some snow. Come end of November and the beginning of December, temperatures are expected to be fairly mild and normal before a colder pattern settles in, she continued. Vettese noted meteorologists are also excited to see how El Nino will impact local weather patterns. The warm ocean current strengthening in the North Pacific is forecast to be the strongest on record and could make the top three strongest El Ninos that we've had, she said. "The one thing that is different from this Seven-year-old Henry Fryer is drenched with a wall of water at the splash pad at Coronation Park on July 4. | Oakville Beaver file photo El Nino pattern compared to El Ninos in the past is that area of warm water in the Pacific. Generally, El Ninos tend to be mild right across Canada, but because we do have that warm weather in the North Pacific, it's really impacting weather systems where we could see the flip into colder weather towards the end of winter," she said.
