Gabrielle's Ride a SickKids fundraiser in memory of Oakville girl Oakville's original family cycling event fundraiser honouring Gabrielle Ide Cinanni has a new location and date. Gabrielle's Ride, in its fourth year, will be held at the Kelso Quarry, 5437 Steeles Ave., in Milton Sunday (Sept. 13). The annual charity bike ride, which originally went through Oakville, raises funds for congenital heart disease and pediatric stroke research and treatment at Toronto's SickKids Hospital -- to date, Gabrielle's Ride has raised more than $175,000 towards its cause. The late Gabrielle Ide Cinanni died of congenital heart disease on Nov. 9, 2010 -- she was five. Wanting to keep her daughter's memory alive and help other children with similar conditions, Gabrielle's mother, Nikki Ide, created the annual fundraiser. Participants can register for one-kilometre, 2.5-km, 5-km, 10km, 50-km, 80-km, 110-km, 125-km, 140-km or 165-km routes, or for the Tyke Ride meant for young riders. The family-friendly event will also include a barbecue, live entertainment, bouncy castles, arts and crafts, fun hair styling, face painting, balloon animals, snow cones and cotton candy. New to this year will be a rock climbing wall and caricature drawings. Registration starts at $10 and children aged 12 and younger are free with an adult registration.
