Talented locals hoping to become `Rising Stars' Three up-and-coming Oakville stars have moved on to the second round of the 29th Rising Star Talent Competition. Held at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), currently running in Toronto until Sept. 7, the competition sees performers in many genres between ages six and 25 submit applications to compete at the event and the top candidates are invited to perform at the CNE. Oakville's Sydney Quinlan, 11; Jacob Skiba, 11; and Adriana Serra, 13, are hoping to sing their way into the nals of the talent competition. Jacob and Adriana will be competing in the semi- nals Monday (Aug. 31) and Sydney will be performing Tuesday (Sept. 1). Their performances are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on the International Stage in the Enercare Centre. Twelve-year-old Oakville singer Raina Harten is also competing. The youngster participated last year and made it to the top 10. All four are a part of the Junior Division; the Junior Preliminaries were held Aug. 21-24. Performers are judged on their ability, audience appeal, stage presence and the quality of their performance.
