Junior Kindergarten proposals for Halton public schools are sparking debate over whether these youngsters should spend full or half days in school. On Wednesday the Halton District School Board will consider holding Junior and Senior Kindergarten classes on an all-day, alternate day basis. The school board has been conduct ing open houses throughout the region to -obtain public comments about the all-day, alternate day proposal. Oakville's public meeting is set for Tuesday (the day before the proposal goes to the board) at T. A. The Barn AEN General Contracting Drug warning was too late for girl By Howard Mozel OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF The family doctor o f Vanessa Young says he immediately stopped prescribing the controversial heart burn drug linked to her death upon learning the litany of possible sideeffects - less than two weeks before the 15-year-old Oakville girl col lapsed and died. Dr. Ron Mittler told a coroner's inquest on Thursday that a "dear doc tor" letter from Janssen-Ortho he read on March 8 , 2000 warned of so many contraindications for the drug Prepulsid that he told his staff not to refill any o f his patients' prescriptions for the medication. "I saw this and said, `This can't be prescribed safely any more,'" said Dr. Mittler, who suspected Young of bulimic tendencies. "I made the deci sion. People are coming off this." W hile the letter warned that, among other things, serious cardiac arrhythmias could result even among those without pre-existing conditions, Dr. Mittler said there was nothing to indicate that Young was in danger.
