More than $200K in Ontario Arts Council grants given to local artists, organizations Several local artists and arts organizations were recently recognized for receiving grants totalling more than $200,000 from the Ontario Arts Council (OAC). "I extend my congratulations to the Oakville artists and organizations who received funding from the Ontario Arts Council," said Kevin Flynn, Oakville MPP and Ontario Minister of Labour, in a media release. "Oakville has an active and vibrant arts community and this funding not only helps nurture our artists but also allows our arts organizations to continue to offer fantastic programming for everyone to enjoy." During the 2014-15 year, a total of $213,101 was awarded to professional artists and arts organizations in Oakville. Grant recipients The following are this year's recipients: · Danza Corpus Canada -- $9,900 for aboriginal and culturally-diverse dance training; · Guernica Editions Inc. -- $27,891 for grants to book publishers; · Oakville Arts Council -- $6,570 for community arts councils; · Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts -- $24,500 for the Ontario Dances program; · Oakville Children's Choir -- $13,440 for choirs and vocal groups; · Oakville Galleries -- $105,500 for public art galleries; · Oakville Symphony Orchestra -- $7,500 for orchestra projects; · David Kibuuka -- $11,300 for arts education projects; · Martha Ladly -- $1,500 for exhibition assistance; · Aaron Lam -- two $1,500 grants from Writers' Reserve, an OAC grant program to assist professional writers in the creation of new work; · Michael Mirolla -- $1,500 (Writers' Reserve); · Kyle Tonkens -- $500 for exhibition assistance. Artists of all disciplines and at any point of their artistic development are invited to submit their applications to the QEPCCC's Exhibitions Review Committee, which reviews all proposals twice a year. The corridor galleries are available for artwork in all media in solo and group exhibitions. These spaces do not have rental fees. The main gallery welcomes proposals from professional, local artists and curators in the areas of fine art, craft, performance art and digital arts. Exhibition opportunities for presentation of artwork in all media including solo and group exhibitions are available for the 2016-17 exhibition program.
