www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, July 17, 2015 | 8 Project Trailblazer will continue to target crime in parks and on trails by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff A Halton police enforcement project, which focuses on keeping Oakville parks and trails safe, has led to 23 arrests in two months. Project Trailblazer saw officers with the Oakville Community Mobilization Bureau (CMB) increase patrols in local parks and along local trails and specifically target problem areas. The project ran from April 20 to June 26 with a focus on addressing drug use and associated criminal activity in the parks and trail systems. The initiative yielded 23 arrests with 35 criminal charges being laid. Halton Regional Police Sgt. Eric Schwab of the Oakville CMB said that while six of these charges were drug-related, others included charges of assault, robbery, theft and uttering threats. Schwab noted that while officers on patrol encountered some of these crimes while they were in progress, in other instances they developed contacts through their patrols, which led to police investigations and ultimately arrests. Over the next few months, police said, the CMB will remain committed to maintaining safe and crime-free parks and trails. Residents who see property damage, graffiti, discarded material (such as furniture) or suspect a particular area of a park or trail system is being used for criminal activity can report it to the CMB through OakvilleParksProject@haltonpolice.ca. This email address is not monitored 24/7 and is not an emergency reporting option. If a member of the public witnesses a suspicious or criminal act in a public park or trail system, they are advised to dial 911 and report it directly to the Halton Regional Police Service so officers can respond immediately. Anyone with information about criminal activity can also contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or through the web at www.haltoncrimestoppers.com or by texting `Tip201' with the message to 274637 (crimes). ® Ultimate Drivers "Driver Training That Makes a Difference" SIGN uP ONLINe Program www.ultimatedrivers.ca For Reinstating Driver's License Prepares you for G2 or G License Defensive Driving Certificate Minimizes Road Test Time and Qualifies for Maximum Insurance Discount Driver retraining Program Complete refresher Program Helps Reviewing Your Driving Habits for Test ON Our BeGINNer DrIVer eDuCATION PrOGrAm.
