Joe French scored three goals and assisted on three others as the Oakville Buzz evened its second-round Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B playoff series at 1-1 with a 9-7 win over the Clarington Green Gaels Tuesday in Oakville. Foster Cuomo added two goals and three assists and Eddie Renaud collected a goal and three helpers for the Buzz, which built an early 4-1 lead and never trailed in the contest at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre. Dalton Follows (two) and Jaden Walcot provided Oakville's other goals in support of winning netminder Kyle Hebert. "Our defence as a whole was rock solid and we blocked more shots in this game than we have all season," Buzz coach Mike Bentivegna said. Clarington, the top playoff seed in the East Conference, claimed Game 1 of the series last Saturday in Bowmanville, downing the fifth-ranked Buzz 10-8. Cuomo notched four goals and two assists for Oakville, which was without French (university commitments). Keyan McQueen had a goal and three assists, and Austin Redding, Josh Morton and Renaud provided Oakville's other markers. The best-of-five East semifinal series continues tonight (Thursday) in Bowmanville. Game 4 will be held Saturday at TRAC, beginning at 7 p.m. A fifth and deciding game, if necessary, would be contested Sunday in Bowmanville. Vilela's three goals key Blue Devils' win over TFC Academy Filipe Vilela scored three times to lead the Oakville Blue Devils to a 4-0 win over Toronto FC Academy Sunday at Sheridan College in League1 Ontario soccer play. Gary Giffin also tallied and Daniel Voci recorded the shutout for the Blue Devils, who have yet to lose a regular-season game (nine wins, one draw) in their inaugural League1 season.
