The position came open in the wake of the late Max Khan's death in March. Council chose to ll the vacancy through a by-election rather than appointment as the new council's four-year term just started with last fall's Oct. 27, 2014 municipal election. There are 10 candidates seeking the seat. The candidates at a glance · Careleen Antonsen: The long-time Ward 6 resident is a graduate of the physics programs at the Universities of Waterloo and Ottawa. Her work experience includes time spent helping to develop the Canadarm. She has also Carleen Antonsen volunteered with and worked as a board member for a number of organizations including: Oakville's Carousel of Nations, the Oakville Aquatic Club, the Association of Bright Children Ontario, and the Iroquois Ridge School Council. Antonsen said she wants to work with the present Town council to deal with the Province's Places to Grow legislation. His recent employment experience includes work at Sheridan College's Career Centre as Gordon Brennan well as time spent with Re-Max Realty Enterprises Inc., and Steeles-West Realty Inc. The married father of two boys aged 15 and 12 says he is working on opening his own Licensed Childcare Centre that specializes in daycare for boys and for Autistic children. He said his past experience includes volunteering on three different school councils. At Captain R. Wilson Public School he served as co-chair. At Abbey Lane Public School he was on the Property Committee and at Emily Carr Public School he was head of the Facilities Committee. The married father of four said he considers members of the Oakville community to be his family and says their concerns are his concerns. He said his community work includes forming the non-pro t organization known as the Amal Foundation Canada of which he has been president since 2003. This organization's objective, said Hussain, is community building through social work with the Amal Foundation holding several events a year. Hussain also said he is vice chair of the Canadian Association of Pakistan Origin (CAPO), a non-pro t organization, which provides services and resources in the community for new immigrants and seniors. It also offers free tutoring for children, holds health seminars, assists clients with legal issues and more. Hussain said he is also the owner of a local security company. For more information, visit www.hussainasjad.ca. · Mansoor Khan: Brother of the late Ward 6 Councillor Max Khan, Mansoor says he has campaigned with Khan at both the municipal and federal levels, and has already met many of his would-be constituents. The 44-yearold chiropractor, who lives in the Sixth Line and Dundas Street area, said in watching his brother's career, he saw Khan carry out real community Mansoor Khan change for the better, something he'd continue. He is married with three children aged eight, six and four. While Ward 6 offers no shortage of issues, one problem Mansoor said he plans to take on is airplane noise. Both she and Adams stepped Natalia Lischyna away amid al- legations of each other's wrongdoing, which the Conservative Party of Canada stepped in to investigate. Lishchyna lists volunteer work at the emergency room department of OTMH and with various parent councils among her experience and said she is looking for a new way to serve her community. A long-time Ward 6 resident, Lishchyna said she knocked on a lot of doors in running for the federal Conservatives and met a lot of people. She is married with two children aged 14 and 11. Nazareth worked as an on-air economist for CTV's Business News Network from 1999-2012. Her work experience also includes time spent as a senior economist with CIBC, an econoLinda Nazareth mist with the federal government, a professional speaker and author. Nazareth runs her own consulting rm, is the Senior Fellow for Economics and Population Change at the think tank MacDonald Laurier Institute and is a recipient of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Award for public service. Nazareth, who is married and has a 12-yearold daughter, said she has been an Oakville resident on and off since 1977. The Ward 5 resident, who emphasized that she lives close to the Ward 6 border, said she is also running because of her desire to be a strong advocate for all Ward 6 residents.
