Mayor's Invitational Tournament July 16 to benefit Kerr Street Mission The eighth annual Mayor's Invitational Tournament (MIT) is Thursday, July 16 in support of Kerr Street Mission (KSM). "This softball tournament is a fun way to raise donations and support members of our community who are in need," Mayor Rob Burton said. "Thank you to this year's sponsors, donors and softball teams -- your participation significantly contributes to the success of the tournament, which will ultimately help families in Oakville." The day of co-ed softball games will be held at Trafalgar Park, 133 Rebecca St., and raises funds for KSM programs, this year specifically, its After School Program, which provides daily after school care to 30 students aged four to 11. Students engage with one another, develop numeracy and literacy skills, and are provided with nutritious snacks. "KSM focuses on the educational, emotional, and spiritual growth of each and every child, to ensure that they are given the best possible care," stated a media release. "This program allows the parents to continue their full time jobs, or education, while reducing the financial stress of finding appropriate childcare." A volunteer zero-waste team, led by Lura, will once again be on hand this year to help create a greener tournament environment. This year's fundraising goal is $150,000.
