The collision occurred just after 6 a.m. Sunday, when the driver of a westbound Dodge Caravan lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. Both occupants were extricated from the vehicle by Oakville fire crews. The passenger, a 39-year-old Burlington woman, was airlifted to an area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the van, a 36-year-old Oakville man, was rushed to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH). He sustained serious injuries. Halton police said the driver has since been released from hospital. The passenger remains in critical, but stable condition, as of Wednesday. Upper Middle Road, between Trafalgar Road and Eighth Line, remained closed for most of the morning. Police are investigating this incident, however, no charges had been laid as of press deadline.
