Oakville Rock, Titans and Blue Devils all enjoying successful stretches The Oakville Rock is on a roll. Oakville won its third straight Major Series Lacrosse game Monday at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre, holding the visiting Brooklin Redmen scoreless in the final half of the game on its way to a 7-4 victory. Rob Hellyer (two), Jeremy Noble, Glen Bryan, Billy Hostrawser, Kevin Ross and Dan Lomas scored for Oakville, which trailed 4-3 with 9:20 to go in the second period. Nick Rose made 46 saves to earn the victory. The Rock remained undefeated under head coach Matt Sawyer, who replaced Phil Sanderson behind the Oakville bench after the team opened the senior A season with seven straight losses. Oakville was slated to visit the Brampton Excelsiors last night (Thursday). The Rock's next home game is scheduled for Monday, when it hosts the Peterborough Lakers for an 8 p.m. start at TRAC. Sr. B Titans pull off second straight upset As the end of the Ontario Lacrosse Association senior B regular season nears, the Oakville Titans appear to be building momentum. The Titans doubled up the visiting Brooklin Merchants 10-5 Sunday at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre, Oakville's second straight win over a team above it in the standings. The previous week, the Titans (6-6) rallied from an 8-2 deficit to upend the league-leading Six Nations Rivermen 12-11. Jon Mason scored two goals and added three assists for Oakville Sunday. Allister Warren and 19 | Friday, July 3, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Sports Briefs Todd Kozak both had two goals and two helpers, and Eric Wales, Patrick Root, Jordan Godin and Reed Board also scored. Ian Duffy allowed just one Brooklin goal in the final 31 minutes of regulation to collect the win in net. The Titans hope to extend their winning streak to three games when they visit the 1-11 Wallaceburg Thrashers tomorrow (Saturday). Blue Devils increase lead atop League1 The Oakville Blue Devils opened up some breathing room atop the League1 Ontario soccer standings with a 2-1 victory over ANB Futbol Saturday in King City. Anthony Novak scored in the eighth minute, shortly after ANB opened the scoring, and Vilipe Vilela tallied in the 40th minute to give Oakville a 2-1 lead at halftime. The Blue Devils enjoyed the majority of the scoring chances in the second half, including a shot by defender Al James that hit the goalpost, and Oakville keeper Karmen Saini made a good save on a shot from long range late in the game to preserve the victory in rainy and windy conditions. The Blue Devils, who have eight wins and one draw in nine League1 regular-season games, now own a six-point lead on the Vaughan Azzurri (five wins, four draws) for first place. Oakville's victory Saturday also avenged a loss to ANB earlier this year that eliminated the Blue Devils from League1 Cup playdowns. "Coming so quickly on the back of our recent open cup exit, this was a vital road win for us," said Blue Devils head coach Duncan Wilde, who was impressed by the play of Oakville's back four -- Eric Crawford, Nick Muth, Al James and Sebastian Mental, the latter of whom made his League1 debut Saturday. "I am extremely pleased in the way we went about our business, particularly with the immediate response to going a goal down so early in the game." The Blue Devils will be on the road once again this weekend, visiting the Durham United FC Men tomorrow (Saturday) in Pickering. Oakville's next scheduled home game is July 12 at Sheridan College, when the Blue Devils host Toronto FC Academy for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
