The Newmarket mom, who was diagnosed with cancer in July, has already completed chemo- therapy treatment at Southlake Regional Health Centre. But for the next step in her treatment, she was to travel to a hospital in Toronto, which she feared would throw her life into chaos, yet another blow in her battle with the disease. “Every time there was a (con- struction) delay, I would gasp," she said. “I would have had no choice but to travel to (Princess) Margaret Hospital in Toronto for treatment." The ability to access treat- ment in Newmarket eliminated the concern. Drive-thrus were eventually removed from the bylaw. which was passed that evening, but not without a debate between staff, council and the restaurant industry. The drive-dun resu'icfions will be back before council with a staï¬ report next month: “However it's dressed up, it’s a prohibition," said Michael Polowin. a partner in Ottawa’s Cowling Lafleur Henderson LLP Barristezs and Solicitors of the drive-thru stipulations. “There’s no justiï¬cation being offered for the prohibition of these things."
