Sept 23 1938

A meeting was called and held in the Bronte Community Hall to discuss the formation of a Horticultural Society for Bronte.

Chairman for the evening was Mr. C. Rayburn and secretary for the evening was Miss Hazel Montgomery. A report on a previous Horticultural Society was given by Mrs. Boswell.

Dick the Gardener gave a very interesting and inspiring talk explaining the object of a Horticultural Society and the rules and regulations for its formation.

Some of the aims are: to encourage the interest in Horticulture and improve it, beautification of the community, to interest children, and to hold exhibitions.

It was decided by the meeting that a Horticultural Society be formed and the following committee was chosen to solicit membership and to call a meeting to organize.

Convener - Mrs. Boswell, Mr. C.L. Rayburn, Mr. Freeman Bray,

Mrs. M. Dawson, Mr. Collins, Mr. G. Cross, Mr. B. Lowe, Mrs. McCullogh, Mrs. Smith, Mr. T. Tus, Mr. E. Belyea.

It was decided that the committee meet on Tues. Oct. 4th at the home of Mrs. Mark Dawson.

Mr. Fiddes made a motion and see by Mr. McCullogh that we extend a vote of appreciation to Dick the Gardener for his kindness in coming to speak and also for the interest he has shown in speaking well of Bronte in his radio talks.

The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. M. Dawson and Chairman for the evening was Mr. C. Rayburn. Mrs. Boswell was in the position as Secretary.

It was arranged to have Mr. Rayburn get in touch with Dick the Gardener or arrange a meeting to organize the Society on Tuesday evening Oct. 18. It was also left with Mr. Rayburn to order 200 membership tickets.

Moved by Mr. Cross and sec. by Mr. Lowe that Mrs. Boswell and Rev. Geo. Moore sign a bank form in order to obtain the bank accounts of the former Society.

Mr. Cudmore as President of the former Society landed in the Passbook with a balance of $19.32 and cash on hand $20.07.

Those present at the meeting were as follows: Mr. Collins, Mrs. McCullogh, Mr. McCullogh, Mrs. Smith, Mr. Lowe, Mr. Cudmore, Mr. F. Bray, Mr. Rayburn, Mr. Dawson, Mrs. Dawson, Mrs. Boswell.

The meeting was held in the Bronte Community Hall with the meeting beginning at 8-20 O'clock.

Moved by Mr. Cross and Sec. by Mr. Lowe that C. Rayburn be Chairman. Moved by Mr. Lowe sec. by Mr. Cudmore that Geo. MacLeod be Secretary for the evening.

The election of Offices then took place and the following members were elected

Directors: C. Rayburn, Mrs. J. Rogers, Mrs. Boswell, Mr. Geo. MacLeod, Mrs. McCullogh, Mr. F. Bray, Mr. E. Belyea, Mr. R. Thurston, Mr. W. MacDonald, Mr. Stan Wood.

After the election of Offices Dick the Gardener gave a short talk and made arrangement for the Annual meeting.

It was then moved by C. Rayburn sec. by Mr. McCullogh that the Annual meeting be held Friday Evening Jan. 13 1939.

The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
