Pet food topic of W.I. meeting Pets and their food was the subject for the Codrington Women's Institute recent meeting. The guest speaker for the meeting was William Nash of Quaker Oats in Trenton. Mr. Nash explained some interesting points about pet food. He noted that there are 50,000 tons of canned pet food produced in Canada in one year. Mr. Nash pointed out that hygiene standards for producing the animal foods are as high as for human use and there is no cause for alarm in these days of rising food costs if people begin eating pet food. The roll call which was titled name a product and compose a commercial had many interesting ideas such as effective selling of home-made jam, a never never cleaning product, N'Odor deodorent and even a singing commercial. A report of the Donnybrook Sale showed that they had cleared $485. Plans for the September celebration of 65 years for the branch was discussed. Ann Anderson and Willa McCann shared reporting of the recent district annual meeting. Two W.I. projects were received with a great deal of interest, a continuous quilting all summer at the Science Centre in Toronto and the proposed W.I. displays at the CNE and Winter Fair. The members concluded with a lunch prepared by Cathy McCann, Jennie Bridgewater and Olive Ames. Licence suspended in Brighton court Wilred Huggins, of RR 2 Codrington, was found guilty in Brighton provincial court to a charge of driving while his licence was suspended. Huggins pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was fined $50 and costs or seven days in jail and has been prohibited from driving for one year. ..Sportsmanship award went to Bradley Freeman while Sharon Smith and Louann Maroney were cited for general proficien- B.P.S. student wins mathematics contest David Rogers of Brighton Public School placed first in the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education mathematics contest. The board sponsors the contest for intermediate students throughout its jurisdiction. David achieved a score of 90. He is a student in Mrs. S.Graham's intermediate class. Patrick Andrews, another student h\the same class, placed ninth in the competit- Several other students from B.P.S. entered the contest and although they did not make the honor roll, they had respectable marks. The contest was operated by a committee from the mathematics departments of the secondary schools. Over 200 elementary school mathematicians participated.
