Readens Corner >iiehalton.com S. Reoent ardcles reflect how geen we would like to be, but what stands in our way Dear Editor: How concerned are we about the quality of our lives? Two recent postings in the Champion reflect how green we would like to be, but what stands in our way. The first story ('Petition for more GO Sta- tion parking gaining momentum' by Ra- chel Williams, November 27) about ex- panding parking availability for the GO station decries the need for financing parking expansion. The second posting is a letter to thé editor ('Urban forest proj- ect worthy of spending taxpayers' money' by Tashia Ofiara, October 16) about the worth of an urban forest project. Both of these issues speak to the topic of the quality of our lives and how we ad- dress overcoming the increase of carbon in our environment. We do need to consider what's essential, regardless of the cost, about what wiII improve the quality of our lives. Can we afford not to take measures to decrease the number of cars that need to be on our r.oads? The urban forest project wiIl im- prove the quality of our environment by decreasing carbon levels. These two circumstances shed light on issues that have a green impact on what action is taken or flot taken. We must ask ourselves, can we afford to be sulent, inac- tive, or demand solutions that favour the qiuality of our lives?
