Fiee local activhes to oelebrate rule of librades next week Special activities are planned at Milton Public Library ta mark Ontario Public Library Week (October i9 to 25), and Canadian Library Month in October. Ontario Public Library Week recognizes the. important contribution Ontaria's public Il- brardes make ta education, literacy and life- long learnlng in Ontario communities. Library patrons make 72 million visits ta local libraries across Ontaria annually, in addition ta virtual visits ta search tities or place holds. This year's library week theme is 'Libraries In- spire' Locally, the free family festival 'Celebratlng Stories' wiIl take place at the Milton Centre for the Arts from 1 ta 5 p.m. on Sunday. The annual event, which began in 1996 as Milton's book festival for chfildren, showcases some of Canada's best known and emerging authors. Children will be greeted by Cinderella and a pirate as they arrive. Several presenta- tians will take place including readings, and Splash'N Boots in the Mattamy Theatre from 3:30 ta 4:30 p.m. Face painting will be avail- able throughout the afternoon. Organizers say that children, parents, grand- parents, educators, librarians and anyone else who likes chlldrens literature will enjoy the free event. Other events are as follows: A Pollsh film showcase will be at the Beaty Branch on Tuesday, Oct. 21. Cansulate Gen- eral of Poland in Toronto Grzegorz Japkiewicz will be in attendance when Black Thursday, a 2011 feature film, directed by Antoni Krauze, will be shown at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, ail week, the Milton Public Library has events planned. Share Vour Story With Us, will be at the main library and the Beaty branch. It encourages residents ta share in- spiratianal and personal stories with videos, pictures or staries. A baokfacing photo cantest at the main li- brary asks people ta take a book with a face an the caver, hold It up in front of your awn face and snap a photo to bring your favourite baak cavers ta life. A banned baok display will be at the main branch, in celebration of freedom ta read. Explore issues around baak challenges and learn which bàoks have been banned. The library will also hold a crossword chal- lenge at bath branches in which participants can fll out a crossword for a chance ta win a Kobo tauch.
