www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, June 5, 2015 | 26 Holy Trinity cruises to provincial fastpitch title Tough start for MSL's Rock The Holy Trinity Titans claimed a provincial high school fastpitch title last week, outscoring their opponents 4814 on their way to five straight wins at the Ontario Provincial Women's Softball Association's annual high school classic in Brampton. The Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations does not offer a fastpitch championship tournament, due largely to the short spring season, so the PWSA offers the annual high school competition instead. All teams across the province are invited to the tournament and placed in pools via a blind draw, with pool winners advancing to the playoff round. Holy Trinity clinched the title with an 8-2 win over the defending champion, Chatham's John MacGregor. Olivia Elliott and Rachel MathesonGreen handled the pitching duties for the Titans, and first baseman Nicole Lemieux went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in. The Toronto Rock's gain is the Oakville Rock's pain. With nearly one-third of its regular roster unavailable because of the Toronto Rock's participation in the National Lacrosse League final, the Oakville Rock has stumbled to an 0-3 start to the Major Series Lacrosse senior A season. Oakville was routed 19-2 Tuesday in Six Nations, a day after dropping its home opener 9-5 to the Brampton Excelsiors at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre. Oakville lost 9-4 to the host Brooklin Redmen in the Rock's season opener last week. Stu Martin and Alex Crepinsek scored Oakville's goals Tuesday. Six Nations scored the first eight markers in the contest as well as the final 10. Brenden Thenhaus (two), Shayne Adams, Billy Hostrawser and Patrick Corbett scored Monday for Oakville, which allowed four straight goals in the second period to trail 7-3 going into the second intermission. Adams scored a pair last Wednesday versus Brooklin, with Sean Gillies and Chris Buswell adding singles. Kevin Ross, Brodie Merrill, Brett Hickey, Nick Rose, Stephan Leblanc, Bill Hostrawser, Damon Edwards and Rob Hellyer are the Oakville Rock players currently in the NLL final. Oakville's Glen Bryan, Mark White and Steve Fryer are on Toronto's practice roster, though they have been able to see action this season in the MSL. The Toronto Rock will play its second game of the bestof-three NLL final this Friday in Edmonton, when the Rush will look to clinch its first Champion's Cup after winning last weekend's opener 15-9 in Toronto. If necessary, a third and deciding game would be played Saturday, June 13 in Toronto. The Oakville Rock will be home to the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks Monday. Getting key contributions from younger players -- this year, Valley highlighted efforts from Grade 9 students Bridget Peros and Black as well as Grade 10s Simone Olivera and Susie Dunn -- also helps the OT girls' rugby train keep rolling year after year. "They made a really nice transition into the senior program. And our senior girls did a nice job pulling them up and making sure everybody was as connected as they could be," Valley said. "It would be easy for our Soccer Player Development Grade 12s to turn their noses up Game Based LearninG Brain Based LearninG and (ignore them), but we did a nice job as a unit making everyone feel welcome."
