The celebration takes place Wednesday, June 10 at the Joshua Creek Heritage Centre, 1086 Burnhamthorpe Rd. E., from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Through the grant, GSS Halton-Peel has been able to assist faith communities with environmental initiatives through various greening efforts, including: conducting greening audits, assisting in many faith community's eco-friendly initiatives, and helping to organize a number of events, such as green clean-ups, documentary screenings, and youth events in nature. Guest speaker for the evening will be Dr. Stephen Scharper, an author and associate professor at the School of the Environment and Department for the Study of Religion at the University of Toronto. The free event will see the presentation of a 2015 GSS Halton-Peel Award. This year's nominees include: Applewood United Church (Mississauga), Church of the Incarnation and Trafalgar Presbyterian Church (Oakville), and Port Nelson United Church (Burlington).
