"The bishop is encouraging us as a board of trustees to stay united with the bishops, have faith in our Catholic leaders and in the Institute for Catholic Education, to produce resources that will assist our Catholic teachers to implement the revised curriculum in a way that will stay true to our Catholic principles... we need to move forward together for the good of unified Catholic education in the future. We need to preserve the future of publicly-funded Catholic education." In light of Bishop Crosby's advice and legal advice secured by HCDSB Director of Education Paula Dawson, Michael said approving the proposed motion "would be an absolute reckless and irresponsible move by us as a board of trustees." Failure to implement the new curriculum as required could result in an investigation of the board and a directive by ministry ordering compliance, said Dawson. Failure to comply could also result in an Order by Cabinet for supervision of the Halton Catholic school board, she added.
