6 - Orono Weekly Times Wednesday, October 13, 2010 LOCAL SPORTS A pair of wins and a tie for Bantam Rep Stars by Denise Turner NEWCASTLE Pro Hockey Life sponsored Newcastle Stars Bantam Rep team won their home opener game 1-0 against the Sturgeon Thunder on October 3rd. Both teams played well, with back and forth action, but the Stars prevailed with a winning draw from Ben Choiniere to John Wood who sent the puck into the net for the win. Goaltender, Kalan Moxley with his first shut-out was terrific between the pipes. The Stars headed out of town to play Omemee Sharks on October 8th. This was a fast paced game, and the Sharks were very strong. The game could have gone either way, but the Stars settled on a 2-2 tie. Unassisted markers by Choiniere and Wood rounded out the Stars scoring for this night. The team played well against Ops Flames on Thanksgiving Sunday and won handily, with every player contributing with at least a point. Net minder Moxley, stood strong for his second shutout of the season. "We are off to a great start. I am very proud of these kids, they play with a lot of heart and determination." Coach Paul Choiniere said. "We have a lot to learn, but they are really buying into our system of play, and our TEAM FIRST motto. It is so rewarding to see the games reflective of the things we work on in practice, and the unselfish team play, even in the blow-outs."
