"It is not the responsibility of the municipality and the taxpayers of the municipality to pay for the survival of Camp 30," Mayor Abernethy told committee members. He said he had no problem with moving forward with the conceptual plans as long as it was at no cost to the municipality. The municipality has approached provincial and federal government representatives for assistance in preserving the site but was unable to secure any financial commitments. A local "Friends of Camp 30" group has been formed which is pursuing avenues of funding from upper levels of government. "Some here were totally against Total Hockey," Councillor Trim said. "If this goes through in any form, Total Hockey will seem like peanuts price-wise compared to what we will spend for Camp 30." Total Hockey was the $2 million hockey museum opened by the municipality of Clarington in October 2006 and closed 17 months later due to lack of interest.
