Wednesday, June 24, 2009 Orono Weekly Times - 9 Waste collection changes in recognition of Canada Day WHITBY, ON - The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to remind residents of changes to scheduled curbside waste collection in recognition of Canada Day. WHEN: Durham Region residents with regular waste collection scheduled for Wednesday, July 1 will be affected by the Canada Day holiday. Please note that Monday, June 29 and Tuesday, June 30 are regularly scheduled collection days. WHERE: Residents living in the Town of Ajax and the City of Pickering are asked to note that waste collection scheduled for Wednesday, July 1 will be picked up on Monday, June 29. Residents in the Municipality of Clarington and the townships of Brock, Scugog, and Uxbridge are asked to note that waste collection scheduled for Wednesday, July 1 will be picked up on Saturday, July 4. Residents in the City of Oshawa and the Town of Whitby are advised that the "day shift" system will be in place for Blue Box collection. Residents with collection scheduled for Wednesday, July 1 will temporarily have their Blue Box collection moved to the next day, Thursday, July 2. Blue Box collection scheduled for Thursday, July 2 will temporarily move to Friday, July 3. Finally, collection for Friday, July 3, will be moved to Saturday, July 4. Garbage and Green Bin pick up for Oshawa and a result of Cap and Trade, they will pass that cost along to the North American consumer and that will trigger inflation. Something that the North American economy can not absorb at a time that the American economy is in a tailspin and the Canadian economy is fragile, at best. The consumer always pays in the end. It`s like the decision to remove plastic bags from your grocery store ( or at least charge for them). Do you think the money saved by the grocer for not having to pay for any more plastic bags will be passed on to the consumer? Perhaps. Do you think that the municipal government`s savings of not having to land-fill all those plastic bags will be passed on to the taxpayers? Whitby residents is the responsibility of the individual municipalities, not the Region of Durham. These residents are asked to check their waste calendars, or contact their local municipality, regarding collection of these items. WHY: These changes are taking place in observance of Canada Day. NOTE: Residents are reminded to have waste materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of collection. For more information, please contact the Region of Durham, Works Department at 905-579-5264 (toll-free at 1-800-667-5671) or email www.waste@durham.ca. The Region of Durham apologizes for any inconvenience. The answer to that one is "no." Our municipal taxes won`t go down. They never do. When you come right down to it, even though governments, media, and the greenies won`t accept that the jury is still out on the science of global warming, it is still a debatable subject. There is many a scientist that will point to the world going through warming and cooling periods long before the industrial age. They question the computer programs that predict what the weather will be fifty years from now. Heck, I have trouble believing them when they tell me it won`t rain on Friday and I can book a golf game. STOCKWELL Continued from page 4 riage created in heaven. The bad industry buys credits from the good industry, money changes hands, and Bob`s your uncle. The tree planters become millionaires and all is right with the world. The only problem with all of this is that the industry that is exceeding their caps are manufacturing goods that most North Americans have learned to love over the years. Like electricity, fuel to run their cars and heat their homes, food to feed their kids, and almost anything else that you see in the Sears catalogue.
