Jt 8 Orono We~kJy Tlmts, Wednesd~yJanuary 15, 1997 n Clarke High gives the miracle of- Christmas As the holidays are now over and everyone is breathlng a sigh of relief, Clarke High School students are proudly looklng back at their accom- plishments, especially with the Adopt A Family Campaign that took place before Christmas. Clarke Students decided that as their good deed for the holi- days they would help out the Bethesda House for Battered Women in Bowmanville. Ail of the homerooms participated in providing gifis for seven local familles. For a period of two weeks, students gathered pre- sents, money, and non-perish- able food items so that needy familles would be given the chance to have a real Christmas this year. The end result was beyond incredible. Ail the chil- dren and their mothers were provided with more than- ade- quate gifis as well as a gifi cer- tificate for fifty dollars at the nearest grocery store. The Bethesda House thanked Clarke'Students for their time an(. effort and were more than grateful for what they had accomplished. A special thanks goes to the Mdopt A Family com- mittee who organized and ran the campaign. Members were: Jessica Lee (chairperson), Dan MacDonald, Andrea Etmanskie, Emlly Tufts, Julie Harper, Paula Partner, Alecia Staples, Bob Witheridge, Andrea Rutherford, Lia Rutherford and staff super- visorn Mrs. Petherick. We would also like to extend our thanks to Mrs. Cripps who gave usnot only her time, dedication and hard work but the use of her classroomn as well! Orono Public School News As 1997 begins , we encour- age ail students to continue their strong efforts to succeed in academic pursuits and to make good choices in their relation- ships with other people. In every classroomn we will be worklng on continuing to devel- op good literacy and numeracy skills using new materials. We will be emphaslzing problem solving as the mechanism through which we will be teach- ing these important skills. This term we will also be working toward our 'Invention Convention' which wil provide teanis of students a challenge that they must face using Design and Technology.
