Orono Weely'imes, Wednesday, January 3, 1996 - D - Shalring The Wealth at Newtonville P.S. -Orono Public School News Newtonville Public School made Christmas a littie easier for the fanmilies that rely on the East Clarington Food Bank.. The school gathered over five boxes of foodstuffs for the Food Bank. The school every year has collected food for the less fortunate. Here, Charles Gray, a volunteer for the Food Bank, picks up the food from students Crystal Dickenson, Shaughn Caswell, Tara Clarke, and Becky Adams. For such a small school, they sure managed to raise quite a bit of stuff. Crimestoppers and Durham Regional Police are asking for the publi's assis- tance in solving a series of break and -enter incidents which occurred on Simcoe Street North, Oshawa, on October 30, 1995. During the late evening hours HiLite Cleaning Centre and Glovers Milk Store situated in the plaza at 1487 Simcoe Street North was forcibly entered. Entry to the premises was gained by forcibly entering a vacant unit in the plaza. Once insîde, sledge ham- mers- were used to smash the adjoùining wall permiitting access to HîLite Cleaners. ApproximnatelY $30.00 in marked orange painted quarters were stolen. The cuiprits agaîn smashed an entry- point in the dividing wall leadîng to Glovers mnilk' store. A cash tray contain- ing approximately -$300.00 in cash was taken. Our Grade Three class has been studyîng Mexico and we have made pinatas out of balloons and paper mache. We decorated themi with paint, streamers and shiny paper. The pinatas will be filled with candy and broken during our class Christmas fiesta on December 21, 1995. We have also been study- ing Mexico and Germany and have learned songs that represent both countries. We really like the song about Pablo the Reindeer. On December 14 we had the Senior's Tea at our school. Our class did part of Crimestoppers will pay a cash reward of up to $ 1000.00 for any informa- tion that leads to -an arrest in this incident or any other serlous offence. We are very busy before Christmas because we have three Christmas concerts and we stng carols in the gym every mornmng. We are making surprise presents for our parents for Christmas. Shh. ..don't tell them! Our class is learning to subtract two digit numbers with regrouping right now and it is easy for most of us.
