"The old ice resurfacer -- which was well used when the arena pur- chased it -- has lasted well beyond- any manufacturers expectations," according to the O.A.A.A. President, Ray Bester. ITo kickstart the fundrais- ing campaign, the Orono Arena Improvement Committee 1generously donated $ 15,000 toward the cost of the machine which is approximately $58,000. The O.A.A.A. is asking local service clubs and cor- porations for donations toward the remainder of the cost. "We are confident that we xii bç ble to pay the bill withouit increasing registra- tion fees or using municipal tax money," Mr. Bester said. The O.A.A.A. President's sense of security comes from the outstanding fundraising abilities that committee has shown in the past. The twenty-five dedicated volun- teers have made much of the maintenance and improve- ments to the arena possible and always remain "in the black". Superb banquet catering and beef barbeques have generated money for costly improvements such as paving the parking lot; replacing flooring and glass; renovating the kitchen in the community centre and installing a handicap eleva- tor and ramp. If you would like to be a part of the success.of this project by making a dona- tion to the Olympia fund please contact Michelle' Malda at 987-4820 or 983- 5617.
