The line of #17 Grcg Dunbam, #5 Derek Sellars and #35 Freeman Hutchings bail several chances early on but Carter's Baker goalie was ready for tbem. #7 Mike Teixeira, placed in front of the net bad is chance 10 score midway in the first but tbe Bakery's goalie was tougb. Carter's Bakery finally go their cbance at 3:28 and scored to make it 1-0. Orono's #6 Tyler Oregg also bad bis chances playing on the line with #8 Paul Richter and #16 Joey Konopka. The second period was scoreless witb # 14 Brian Pisani baving several chances and # 17 Greg Dunhani having the puck just roll off is stick with an open net before hini. Tbeïr first gaine was at 12 p.m. and bad thim face off against Uic Port Hope Optimists. It was a close gaine in Uic first period as Orono was only down 3-2 at the end of it. Scoring for Orono was #17 Greg Dunham and #14 Brian Pisani. This would be ail the scoring for Orono even tbought tbey had many cbances and they went down 5-2 in tbe first gaine. Gamne #2 was a much dloser gamne as they played at 4 p.m. against Port Hope Milk -City. #2 Carl Tardiff was in net for this gamne. #9 Kevin Martin who had been in net gamne # i was on defense gaine 2 and came up with some big plays to belp eut bis goalie. Tbe first period was scoreless and Orono went abead at 3:59 of the second with #6 Tyler Gregg scoring at the end of a long shift fromn #8 Paul Richter. Port Hope tied Uic gamne at 8:20 of Uic Uird. Things looked ripe for an Orono goal late m ic eUird as Steve Gregg, Mike Teixeira and Brian Pisani worked bard to score but Uiey just couldn't get thc sbot away. Orono's Geraldi Financial Leafs "B" Finalists Orono's Geraldi Financial Tykes captured their 14Ui straight win Friday with a victory over Beaver Lumber 5-0. The teani showed solid strength througbout Uic game and was a good warm-up for the tournament Uic following day in Keenc. Ryan Knox started Uie scoring off when he accepted a pas from Jason Geraldi and went deep 10 shoot it in. It was back and forUi until Uic second, whcn Taylor Doyle took a wrist shot and flicked il in Uic top corner. There was no scoring in the third. Matt Baxter was strong in net, capturing Uic shut-out. Defensively, Shane Winters, Jonathan Koersscn, Matthew Bester and Ian Knox proved invaluable. Tbey playcd Port Hope in the first game, but came up short, losing 3-2. Taylor Doyle providcd 2 excellent goals with one assistcd by Rildci Pahnatccr. The second game was action packed, this tume against Lakeside, with Geraldi Financial Leafs winning 1-0 and Taylor Doyle provîding the enly goal, assistcd by Matthew Bester. Goalie Matt Baxter was awardd MVP for the game as be exemplified superior goaltending. We go to Uic final for Uic B Chainpionship against Uic second Lakeside teani. End toecnd action was supplied and a close outcome of 2-1 for Lakeside was thc final. The first goal opencd Uings up and was scored by Taylor Doyle when he strcaked it intoUicemcsh. Lakeside went on te score and then go ahead, Rikki Palmatcer was awardcd Uic MVP. This tournament was a good challenge for Orono considering ail the teams wcrc older. The whole teani stood strong against opposition and showed lots of Famiuy Auto of playoffs OMHA Pee Wee Action this past week saw a diminutive Orono Leafs club eliminated from playoffs by a mucb stronger and larger Mfanvers team. In game one Wednesday, January 27 orono surprised the bosting ManverS club in a 6-4 upset. The gaine was tied 1-1 after one perio4. The Leafs held a 4-3 edge int the final period. Shots on goal favoured Orono by a 30-22 margin. penalties hart Orono's chances in gamne two Friday, January 29 as Manvers overpowered their bost rivais by a 5-2 score forcing a third gaine in the series. Manvers shutout Orono 48-18 in this one-sided affair. In game three played in Manvers arena Sunday, January 29 Orono quickly feU bebind 3-0 as Manvers pressed hard with relentless forechecking in the Leafs end. orono rebounded with a goal of their own before the opening frame had ended. Manvers held a commanding 5-2 Iead aftcr two periods. The Leafs valiantly scored one more in the final period,,but their gas tank was running on empty as Manvers skated away to a 7-3 triumph and the four-point series win. Final shots heavily favoured Manvers by a whopping 45-14 edge. Orono now await a tentative schedule of exhibition matches as well as a confirmed tournament February 18. Lufets...
