The school competed in the recent Harrior event held on October 24th. Ms. Forest was in charge of the Ncwtonville entry. In the Junior Boys category Casey Muizelaar placed first with George Rylance placing fourth. In the Girls' division Marley Gimblett placed third with Heather Boyd in fifth place. In the Bantarn division Chris Fleetwood placed seventh in the boys division while Lindsay Walter placed seventh in the girls division with Pamela Hurvid in eighth position. In the Atom age group Darryl Lucyk placed fourth, and Robert Webster sixth. In the girls' division Jessica Nichols was sixt.h and Sarah Carter seventh. The Soccer teamn was the winnier of the consolation round in a recent toutrnament. The Newtonville teamn first tied Orono 1-1; defeated Kirby 5 - 0 and then lost a close gaine to Newcastle by a score of 2 - 1. Newtonville then defeated Kirby ini the Consolation round by a score of 7 - 0. An A+ bas been handed out te a number of parents who have taken on the chairmanship of a number of the school commituees. Cathy Peterson chairs the bot lunch committee while Connie Mark chairs Pediculosis; Colette Clark, Flouride and Donna Adams fund raising. New faces at the school include Ms. Suzanne Bird who is assuming responsibility for grades 2/3 and Ms. Ann Mercer te the Jk/SK classroomn as Educational Assistant. Mr. Steve Cooper bas left for a contract position with S. T. Worden Public Sehool. .The students of Newtonville Public School attended at the Remembrance Day service at the Newtonville Cenotaph on November 1llth. Parents who could help with Hot Dog days are asked te cal Cathy Peterson 987-1304. The school is holding its Craft and Gift show in the gymn at the school on Saturday, November 26th. It runs from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. with proceeds going te the playground fund. The committee would appreciate donations of baked goods which could be dropped off on November 25th between the heurs of 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. or Saturday morning of the event. The volunteer core planning executive of the PTA wishes te, offer ail the parents the opportunity -te become actively involved in their child's education through involvement with the PTA executive. Nominations are being received for positions of Chair, Secretary and Director until 4 p.m. on November l8th. Election of the execuive is to be held on November 24th at a meeting starting 6:30 p.m. at the school. The results of the election p.m. on that same evening. A change is being suggested ini the PTA Format with the business meeting being held from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. and information/input session being held from 7 to 8 P.m. The school is holding a formn of spelling contest which will assist in raising funds for the playground equipment. The students willkseek signatures for pledges as to the number of words speit correctly. The pledge sheets are to be returned by Novemnber 25th and the spelling test wil bc given in class on November 30th. Al funds raised through this unique program goes to the school. Good effort by Donut Gallery Leafs at tourney Once againi Friday night was hockey night in Orono as the Donut Gallery Atom Leafs took te the ice for their first encounter with Mariposa. It was clear from the start that the hometown boys had come to play as they controlled the game for most of the night but were only able te capitalize on one opportunity to score. The goaltending-duo of Josh Brandt and Glencoe Hogle were on top form as they combined for their second shutout of the season as Orono held on for the 1 to 0 victery. An integral part of the win was the strong defense played by Mark McAlister, Chris Kirkbride, Lee Allin and Brandon His. SUMMARY Second Period 1. Leafs. The first game of the day saw Orono in against the Major Atom St. Annes from Peterborough. This was probably the biggest team that Orono has faced so far this season but Orono was able to hold their own for the first haîf of the game, being down by only one goal at the mid-point of the game.
