The most reeft event in Sherbrooke, Qùebec, saw the Ontario teamn defr-at Newfound- land, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Toscane (Italy). In the semi_ýfinals Ontario defeated Newfoundland 3-0 and in the finals defeated Quebec 3-0. Daryl Reid was credited with 8 kills - 2.73 passing in the opening game witb Newfound- land. He earned 2 aces - 2.6 in passing in the second game and in the third game was credited with 17 kilîs - 2.53 passing. In the cbamnpionship games with Quebec Daryl had 1l kills - 2.57 passing and 5 digs. Stats for the wbole toumnament had Daryl at the top as best passer 2.56 and as well best attacker witb 45 iIls. The province is providing $57 1,000 while the Port Hope Hospital foundation must corne up witli $285,000. It bas been stated that this change will in no way affect the outcome of the restructuring of hospital services between the two centres and the affected portion of neighbouring communities. Ibe gaines get underway tis week-end for Leslie and ber team mates wbo make up the Wbitby Hughes Hawkes playing fast bail. Leslie bas been a mnember of the teain for tbe past îwo years playing short stop. Last week-end the teain placed at tbe Regional Tounament beld in Oshawa witb this placement Orono Twins Four Piteh -Players of the Week gaining them entiy in the Ontario Summer Gaines. Leslie has played bouse league softball in Orono for a number of years prier te stepping up te the Fast Bail league. Leslie credits ber grandfatber, Raye West, fer ber success in ber ball career. She said it bas been bis support, encouragement and bis knowledge of the game that bas been a real asset. Best of luck for Leslie and ber teain mates in tbe event in Nepean. A c@mbination of Courtice bitting WIhere we weren't and Murphys Law doomned Orono te a one sided 19-2 loss., July 30th at a teurnament in Port Hope saw Orone Donut Gallery Midgêts square off against a teain frem Wbitby. Whetber it was ogr coaches 'pep" talk after Our last gamne or a goed nights sleep 50nîething worked. Down 5 te 2 and gensing a lack of offence our ceafbes decided te put the bit and run on in tbe fourth inning. A double by Rob Winnacott, a triple by Kyle Montgomery and a passed bail, saw Orono score two us on just tbree pitcbes. Five runs in the fourth inning, and a great closing by Nick Brown wbo faced just nine batters in the final tbree innings, allowed Orono te table a 7-5 win. Gaine 2 of this tournament saw Orono face tbe Cobourg Sbarks. Pitcbers Alan Lee and Nick Brown weathered a case of verbal intimidation from the Sharks bencb. Perbaps in our best gaine of the season Orono came out bot in the first te take a 6-0 first inning lead. But the vocal assault were down our starter Kyle Montgomery and the Sbarks took a second inning 7-6 lead. Orono again exploded in tbe top of tbe fiftb to take an 11 -8 lead. Bottom of tbe last inning Orono abead 11-9, two out and' big #20 from Cobourg cornes te the plate. #20 bad bit the ball well in bis two previeus at bats, but centre fielder Marc "Deve"f Wierhide bad caugbt thein botb. This time a routine grounder that Corey Stapleton at second threw te Kyle Montgomery at first ended the gaine and put Orono in to the "Au finals. Our final gaine was against anotber Whitby mem, Cburceers Automotive. Orono -played weli but the eider, larger teim front Whitby played very consistent bail to take the "A" Chanipionsbip trophy witb a 15- 10 win. Bantain call-ups Ryan Dewulf and Iosh Reeson were added to the roster to give us 10 players. Well played teain. August 2nd and were were back under the lights at Soper Creek to play Hoopers Tropby Midgets. This gaine was important as it saw starter Kyle Montgomery return to bis dominant pitcbing forin. At long last a welI pitcbed four innings, allowing just 1 run while striking out five. Nick Brown faced jus', four batters to retire tbe side in tbe last inning. A strong offensive gamne was played by Marc, Nick, Rob, Kyle, Alan, Josb and Chuck. Final score 13-2 for Oreno Donut Gallery Midgets.
