Scott congratulated the guiding association following the receipt of a letter from Margaret Crashley, Orono, Pineridge District Commissioner of Girl Guides of Canada Mrs. Crashley has asked permission and assistance from the public works department to paint the Yellow Fish Road designation and logo on the curbs at storm sewer openings in Orono, Kirby and Kendal. The Yellow Fish symbol is to create an awareness that what goes into the stormn drains affects the fish population. Receiving permission the guides would undertake the project in Orono on September 24th. A letter fromn the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority points out that the Authority has been informed by the Waterfront Trust that a sumn of up to $20,000 has been approved by the Trust for a proposed $40,000 picnic shelter at the Bowmanville Harbour Conservation area. The Conservation Authority do not have the funding available amounting to $20,000. The Municipality is being given the opportunity to consider funding of $20,000 for the project. The Clarington Youth Committee has written the Mayor and councillor in search of information as to the joint use of the proposed Seniors' Centre in the old Bowmanville fire station when it is vacated by the fire department. An excing Uime Clarington Girls' hockey ready to take off, 194/95 The time was right to make the big move and volunteers banned together on June 21, 1994 to formn the Clarington Girl's Hockey Association. Oniginally the brainchild of a few select parents, the organization has taken it's first tentative steps and has IIow completed the groundwork to become an entity in it's own right. Because of previous committments, Gary Thompson stepped aside as President and the position was filled by an energetic and knowledgable Nan Spencer. The core executive is now in place and plans are, underway to prepare the Clarington Girl's Hockey Association program for September registration. The C.G.H.A. will have membership in the Ontario Womens Hockey Association and will offer both a house league and a competitiveteam program. Shove off she did on May l5th and for thirty-nine days averaged close to 95 kilometers of bike pedaliing placing her in Thunder Bay on June 23rd. Erin was met by ber parents in Thunder Bay and although she did complete a further section of the route from Sud bury to Sturgeon Falls the trip was over. The young lady biked for the most part alone staying in pivate and public parks. Only twice did she stay in a hotel overnight. She states titat she did meet a number of bikers on the trip and spent some time with a group of bikers from Germany. High School was approved as the officiai prototype for the new Board Logo at the most recent meeting of the board. Brett Graves, a grade il student and a resident of Orono used a computer to develop the new logo which incorporates elements of the Board's old logo and introduces a cleaner, more modemn design. Brent said he decided to keep the torch in the design because "it represents leadership in learning, some 80 kilometers a day. The top daily distance was on the flat prairies with a tail wind in the Winnipeg area where she clocked 200 kilometers in the day. Fighting a wind could reduce that down to 50 to 60 kilometers. - Erin said on the trip she had discovered the best kept secret of aIl, the smell, the sounds and the views of nature.
