Port Hope begin)S heritage study Aflter years of discussing a heritage district for downtown Port Hope town council's architectural- heritage advisors agreed recently, to spend up to $7,500 to-get a study on the way. The money will towards a heritage district study which will define the proposed district and include information on each building including the history of the buildings, age, architectural attributes, lot size and owner. Student pro test A small group of students at a Cobourg High School protested the school's dress code after two students were suspended for wearing shorts with long underwear. Two of the students stated the principal bas gone too far by banning the style of dress. Liaison group loses another Port Hope's Community Liaison Group has lost another member, making two that bave left the group in tbe past two montbs. The Liaison group is seeking to resolve the problemn of low-level nuclear waste in Port Hope. Peanuts anyone The Kidney Foundation as a means of a fund-raiser are selling peanut packs. The fund-raising goal in 1992 for the Region of Durbam is $37,500 up from- $22,500 in 1991. Each peanut bag contains 16 individual peanut snack packs selling for $3.00. Tougb economic times are hampering sales of the peanuts. Just nosing around Port Hope and its disliked odors played host to, a $1 .5 million mobile air-monitoring unit recently. The converted bus sits on sight where traces of offending odors have been detceted. It is a giant nose or sniffer, if you prefer. A 10 metre high tower rises fromn the roof and catches air sampfles which are then analyzed present. This sample is compared with materials used at the varjo)us industries in the municipality. The high-tech super sniffer is one of six such units in the world. The provincial Ministry of the Environment operates two in Ontario, with another in Quebec.
