Mark Fletcher got Carol's Bit Since the beginning of the year we. have been inundated with visions of Canada, of people explaining to us why Canada is the hest, of young children singing of a 'love for this country', anytime, we turn on the TV. One of the latest advertisements promoting our country features the Canadian Armed Forces. It chronicles the peace-keeping missions that cover the four corners of the world. The Canadian soldier as freedom fighter. It is enough to make the heart swell with pride because you are a Canadian and you belong to a peace loving nation. But as this commercial ends, another inevitably begins. This. one telling us that a YES vote is the only thing that is going to keep this country together. Thiat without the utter support of each and every Canadian answering with a loud resounding YES, the country will crumble and fragment into several different pieces. Or maybe, it is the commercial that pushes the NO vote. The ones that tell us that the Charlottetown accord just doesn't have what it takes to be seriously accepted by Canadians. That the core of the agreement does not hold in its best interest the needs of every Canadian. It really does make you stop to think. Canada is a peaceful nation. A nation that many others look up to for its involvement in peace keeping missions, and for its foreign aid. We are a nation that others can turn to when in need. Canadians are heroes abroad. But, here at home, things are different. Here, we have problems keeping things together. The country has been balancing o shaky foundation for years now. Everyone seems to bie opposed to everyone else. Nothing can be agreed on. These days in Canada there is little peace. It hasn't been so long since the Canadian governiment called i the troops on its own people in, Oka. The government bas been forever chasing its tail trying to agree on a constitution. TheEnglish and.the French have been pitted against eacb other. Quebec and th'le rest of the country arm-wrestling over language barriers. And now, The bis third poinit of the game on another fine pass to set up Andrew Beacock for bis second goal at 9:34 of the tbird period. Witb under two minutes remaining Matt McGlynn got bis third point of the match on a fine shiot to the bottom corner set up beautifully by Brandon Caruana at 1:49. Dusty Stapleton had a fine gamne in net for Oroniolfor his first 'Big League Win' in his first appearance betweeni the pipes! Good solid effort guys ail the way around. Next gamnelfor the boys is an exhibition contest at Orono Mrena Thursday, Oc-tobe-r 22 at 7:30 p.mi. Sec you there!i country is caught in a Yes-No tug- of-war. Canadians have a shining image even in the farthest reaches of the world, but here at home We are growing tarnished. If we could only fight our batties as We do outside of the country, in a peaceful way, maybe Canada would truly be the greatest nation.
